This is a Wheaton scottie puppy. The owner wants to maintain the integrity of the coat, and a handstrip it is.
Problem: i’ve never done a handstrip. It’s a very exact technique performed by very few groomers and paid for by even fewer pet owners. I’ve known groomers who charged up to $100 an hour for stripping. Most terriers and a few other breeds are traditionally stripped or plucked.
So i looked up some videos, borrowed a coworker’s stripping knife, and spent an hour or more stripping the back and plucking the face. It turned out decent, i guess.
Looks good to me. How much did u charge?
our usual charge for a scottie with no matting and a clipper trim is $40. I only charged $60, since I really had no idea what I was doing and wasn’t satisfied with the final outcome. I know that a stripped pattern wont be as short as a clippered pet trim, but the dogs I’ve seen on the televised Westminster and Thanksgiving (or is it christmas?) eukenuba show have a much shorter back.
the owner was THRILLED with the results of her black and brindle clippered scottie and her handstripped puppy and tipped $20. So I’m not gonna raise her price and will be doing lots of research on my technique…
